Several people have told me that Red Moon is a type of epistolary (pronounced "a pistol, Larry") novel with a bibliography inside the book where the plot should be and the plot outside the book where the rest of the world should be. Maybe I agree. It's just that every time I hear the word "epistolary", the words "exculpatory" and "exfoliated" immediately pop into my head.

Red Moon is comprised of thirty-two sections, each of which contains references to art, science, philosophy, history, economics, politics and mythology, though not always in that order.

But is it literature?

The full text of Section 5 consists of the words:

“Connect the word list.”

Now you tell me. Is that narrative or what?
